Soji-ji Temple & tree peonies
Soji-ji Temple is one of the most famous temples in Shiga that have the beautiful tree peonies and has approx. 80 kinds of 1,000 peonies planted all around the temple. Vivid colors of flowers bloom beautifully after the harsh winter with a lot of snow. The best time is usually between the end of April and the beginning of May. After the tree peonies are gone, Chinese peonies will start to bloom.
Also, you can see many Buddhist statues such as Yakushi Nyorai and Shokannon (Cultural Property of Japan) as well as the beautiful garden around the pond made in the early Edo period.
