This is one of the leading areas for snowfall in western Japan on the waterfront of the source of Lake Biwa. You can see various ways in which people have adapted to the heavy snow here, such as the kaidare long eaves on the private residences in the mountain villages and the ike water storage facilities used to remove the snow.
