Asahi Honen Taiko Odori Dance (Japan Heritage)
This is a dance to pray for rain that is said to have started approximately 1,300 years ago. According to legend, it is said that heavy rain started to fall when Hashiba Hideyoshi, who was victorious in the Battle of Shizugatake, rang a jinjo (gong used to signal soldiers) and jindaiko (war drum). Gongs and drums have been used in this dance since then.
