Jizo-Gawa River(water crowfoot)
The Jizo-Gawa River originates from clean water springs on Mt. Ryozen and is famous for a very rare variety of the underwater flower “water crowfoot”. The water crowfoot has white flowers similar to plum blossoms and is in full bloom from mid-May to late August. The temperature of the water stays at approx. 14°C and is a habitat of the “smallhead stickleback”, a valued freshwater fish. The Spring of Isame was selected as one of the 100 Exquisite and Well-Conserved Waters of the Heisei Period by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment.
Samegai, through which the Jizo-Gawa River flows, was a post town located on the main road connecting Edo (former name of Tokyo) to Kyoto and still has the flavor of the old days.
